Job Description

Project Description:

The project is a multi-year collaborative effort between the Education and Research Consortium of the Western Carolinas, the Library of Congress and AAM partnering institutions to bring Library of Congress online primary resources into communities and provide innovative professional development for pre-service and in-service teachers, as well as college and university faculty throughout the region.

Education and Experience:

The AAM Director is a critical component in creating and developing an institution’s AAM Partnership. The AAM Director will at times, act as program ambassador, recruiter, educator and event planner. It is important for the AAM Director posses the following education and experience.

A Masters degree in Educational Technology or a related field is required. A Doctoral degree in an Education or similar discipline is preferred.

The AAM Director should have, or be able to obtain, a thorough knowledge of the following items as related to instructional technology and the goals of the project:

  • Microcomputers; Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Capabilities and limitations of computer and peripheral equipment.
  • Analytical procedures
  • Instructional and research methodologies utilizing educational technology
  • Internet navigation; web page creation and editing; web-server functions
  • Creation of electronic presentation including editing and digitizing/embedding video/audio, and use of presentation hardware/software (stand alone and web-based)
  • Planning and delivering technology-related graduate and undergraduate level courses for pre-service and in-service educators, as well as professional development workshops and seminars for higher education faculty and K-12 public, private, and charter school teachers
  • Report writing, budget and program management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills


Essential Functions:

Administrative

  • Direct the planning, budgeting and programmatic/training issues related to technology implementation of participating public and private school systems
  • Coordinate and conduct the selection and recruitment of teachers
  • Visit the K-12 principles and teachers within their schools and provide various forms of assistance to help them integrate the AAM Program material and technology into their individual classroom

Technical

  • Identify and address project-related technical issues; and provide significant consultative assistance to all project stakeholders

Supervisory

  • Supervise the AAM Partner Administrative Assistant and Systems Technology Advisor or Digital Preservationist

Instructive

  • Train grant-related in-service and pre-service teachers and college teacher-education faculty to access, use and produce curriculum utilizing the Internet and digital resources of the Library of Congress
  • Assist participating teachers with integrate technology and digitized primary resources into the teaching/learning process
  • Coordinate and develop schedules and curriculum for the AAM Partner Summer Institute
  • Manage the creation of the Deliverables such as K-12 curriculum plan, college course outline and materials, summer institute outline and materials, lesson plans, professional articles and/or presentations
  • Develop and conduct follow-up workshops for AAM Partner AAM teacher alumni

Reporting

  • Participate in the creation of a semi annual report that involves the recording of major project activities undertaken during the reporting period, progress made toward each project objective, barriers to meeting project goals, expenditures during the reporting period, and community benefits realized from institutions involvement with the project

Publishing

  • Participate in the creation and presentation of collaborative papers reflecting on the process of integrating technology with education
  • Provide information as needed for bi-weekly newsletter
