PROPEL Vision

PROPEL (Primary Resources Opening Portals to Enhance Learning) is professional development providing the opportunity for school librarians and media specialists to become AAM-certified Primary Source Specialists, whereby:

  • School libraries and media centers are an extension of the classroom
  • School librarians and media specialists are a vital link for teachers in curriculum integration
  • Teaching and learning become inquiry-based and constructive

PROPEL Goals

  1. Extend credibility as a school leader and curriculum collaborator through AAM certification as a Primary Source Specialist.
  2. Develop expertise in identifying, locating, and using local, regional, state, and national primary sources.
  3. Enhance existing skills as school technologist and information specialist.
  4. Provide strategic support for primary source integration while recognizing classroom teachers as the content specialists.
  5. Build collaborative relationships with classroom teachers and other librarians with the shared goal of improving student learning and building a culture of inquiry using primary sources.
  6. Educate school principals of the value of teaching with primary sources across the curriculum.
  7. Celebrate primary sources publicly and support classroom teachers who take the primary source challenge.
