PROPEL Vision
PROPEL (Primary Resources Opening Portals
to Enhance Learning) is professional development providing
the opportunity for school librarians and media specialists
to become AAM-certified Primary Source Specialists, whereby:
- School libraries and media centers are an extension of
the classroom
- School librarians and media specialists
are a vital link for teachers in curriculum integration
- Teaching and learning become inquiry-based
and constructive
PROPEL Goals
- Extend credibility as a school leader and curriculum
collaborator through AAM certification as a Primary Source
Specialist.
- Develop expertise in identifying, locating, and using
local, regional, state, and national primary sources.
- Enhance existing skills as school technologist and information
specialist.
- Provide strategic support for primary source integration
while recognizing classroom teachers as the content specialists.
- Build collaborative relationships with classroom teachers
and other librarians with the shared goal of improving
student learning and building a culture of inquiry using
primary
sources.
- Educate school principals of the value of teaching with
primary sources across the curriculum.
- Celebrate primary sources publicly and support classroom
teachers who take the primary source challenge.
