Overview
The second phase (Phase II) of the
AAM program is delivered through a series of in-school
workshops. Although each workshop module is standardized,
the modules can be "snapped"' together in many
different configurations to create a custom curriculum
that will meet individual school, or school system needs.
Like Phase I the goal is to train in-service and pre-service
K-12 teachers to use the online resources of the Library
of Congress. However, far more teachers can be trained
without an increase in overall program costs.
This approach is currently being
developed and field-tested. It will be phased in during
the 2003-2004 year.
Implementation
The workshop series is divided into
modules. These modules can either be taught individually,
requiring one afternoon session for each module, or linked
together, creating larger, full-day sessions. The modules
are designed in such a way that the workshop series can
be individualized to the time constraints of the teachers’ and
the schools' schedules. For example, one school may choose
for its teachers to meet two afternoons per month for
the entire school year while another school chooses for
its teachers to meet one afternoon per week and all day
on two workdays, thus completing the series within a
semester.
Grade Levels
The modules have been developed taking
into account cognitive and affective age differences,
and are available at four different grade levels:
K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Time
A complete workshop series is 35 hours
in length. A one-year time period is allotted for completion
of these hours; however, schools may opt to complete
the hours in one month, one semester, etc.
Flexibility
Individual AAM Partners can modify
the modules to meet individual school system needs. Any
partner can also develop new modules at any time. This
system is fully flexible and extensible
