Introduction to the Library of Congress
 The
world’s
largest library, the Library
of Congress is one of the United
States’ national
treasures. Thanks to an enormous digitization initiative,
these resources are accessible online: making primary source
documents such as the letters and pictures of U.S. Presidents,
photographs from the Great Depression, and recorded folk
music easily accessible. The Library has an extensive and
varied digital collection of more than ten million items.
For teachers and students, using digital resources from the
Library of Congress, makes history come alive!
 The Library of Congress and AAM
Ever since the personal computer was invented, educators
have worked to effectively, efficiently, and wisely integrate
technology into their classroom activities. By incorporating
pre-existing resources from the Library of Congress, An Adventure
of the American Mind helps teachers use digital resources
in instruction seamlessly and naturally while also teaching
students important technology skills they will use throughout
their lives. In addition, students and teachers can use photographs,
sound recordings and other documents from others and are
able to connect these digital resources with their own heritage
and history.
